Mid week announcements
We are in the middle of another great week and the end of the season is quickly approaching.
Gulf Park Meet
We have rescheduled the Gulf Park meet for July 19th. On-line sign-ups are open and we have a board at the pool for signing up as well. We have started a new list, so just because you couldn't make it last time, we can try again. On-line registration will close at 6:00 pm on Sunday, but why wait. Please remember, if you sign-up, show-up. It makes it tough on the other swimmers and the coaches, if we are having to rearrange our line-up at the last minute, and usually someone is affected by your swimmer not showing up. Warm-ups will be at 4:45 in west Knoxville.
City Meet T-shirts
A City Meet T-shirt order form is on the bulletin board in the hallway at the pool. Shirts have an Olympic theme this year. Each shirt is $15 and will have the list of swimmers for the day that your swimmer participates. Shirts must be paid for in advance. Orders are due by July 19th.
City Championship Meet
July 29-31, 2016 at Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the UT campus
The City Meet in Knoxville is the GKAISA Championship Meet. The City Meet takes place at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville with all GKAISA teams participating. GKAISA requires that each swimmer has swum in at least two dual meets during the regular season to be eligible to enter City Meet. Year-round, pre-competitive, and all swimmers may participate in this meet.
This meet is a three-day meet. The first two days are preliminaries with swimmers divided by age
groups. Friday is for swimmers aged 11 and older. Saturday is for swimmers aged 10 and under. The top 16 swimmers or relay teams for each event then compete on the third day, Sunday for finals and consolation finals. If your child wants to participate in the City Meet, you must be sure your child will be able to attend both the first day of his/her age group’s preliminary heats and the final/consolation heats day. GMST must pay a penalty fee to GKAISA for every swimmer who signs up and then does not show up on either day. There is nothing more frustrating to swimmers than to make it to the finals on a relay team and then have to withdraw because one swimmer did not show up for the finals on Sunday! Check with the coaches if you have questions about City Meet.
City Meet is held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Swimmers eleven years and older swim on Friday. Swimmers ten and under swim on Saturday. Finals are held on Sunday. Your swimmer MUST attend on Sunday if they make the top 16 in an individual event or a relay.
Remember to sign your swimmer up for City Meet.
After you sign-up your swimmer, be sure to sign yourself up to volunteer at City Meet. Workers are needed at the City Meet as much as any meet. Parents of swimmers participating are required to work for at least one shift, especially if you haven't worked much at our dual meets. Our team will be responsible for certain jobs and we are penalized if the worker does not show up. Please volunteer to help.
