Great swimming last night against Concord Hills- we won 415 to 316! Thank you to everyone who stuck it out amidst less than ideal weather conditions. We know it wasn't fun to sit in the rain and mud, so thank you for staying! 

Last nights meet showed us what it was like to face a team that wasn't as organized as we are in many aspects. Being thrown into their chaos caused our team to quickly become more chaotic as well. We saw lots of confusion over clerk of course and where the swimmers should go. This was partially driven by Concord's setup. Please remember though that getting the kids lined up and ready is the responsibility of the clerk of course. We have some great parents volunteering for these positions, so please be patient while we get things figured out at other pools.

Another issue we had last night--  we had over 10 kids call to cancel on the day of, after all of the cards and heat sheets were completed. We had yet more kids that didn't show up to the meet at all after registering. With each swimmer we add or remove at the last minute, our coaches are thrown into a frenzy to reorganize every other swimmer in that age group, to ensure swimmers have complete relay teams and are in the right heats and lanes. Last night was a mess with cancellations, and we cannot do that again to our coaches. If your child does not show up to the meet after signing up, or cancels with less than 6 hours notice, the coaches may not include your child in relays at the next meet, or until we are confident that you will be there for the team. While we know there are extenuating circumstances, when you cancel, it puts a strain on the whole team. 

If your child has specific requests for what they need to be entered in, please let us know that on the signup sheets as well. The coaches scrutinize the meet entry and try to get every swimmer in the correct events. They look at the meet at a very granular level, but also look at it from the whole picture to ensure they are setting it up for the best opportunity to win for GMST. This may result in some "off" events for your child, but is what the coaches feel like is the best option for the team.
