GMST Updates 6/6/21
Hi Green Wave! Some news and updates as we head into our 2nd week of the season!
Green & White Meet:
Last call to sign up for the Green & White Meet. Signups will close on Monday evening (extended deadline). Coaches will be getting the lineup ready on Tuesday. To sign up- Log into the Swimtopia site, click on "Swim Meets" and there is a box for meet signup. If signups are closed, that box will turn Red to indicate signups have closed.
When is your child ready to swim in a meet? If your child can swim 1 length of the pool, they are ready to compete in a meet! Throughout the season, the coaches will be evaluating swimmers and can let you know when your child is ready as well. If you have questions on whether they are ready for a meet, ask Coach Breanna at practice. The Green & White meet is also a great practice meet for swimmers who are hesitant but want to see what it's like! Don't worry, we'll also have an 8 and under fun meet at the end of the season that will be for ALL swimmers, regardless of their skill level.
Warm Ups/ Meet Time: Warm ups for the Green & White meet will start at 5:30pm. Please arrive at the pool by 5:15pm so that swimmers are ready to go by 5:30pm. The meet will start at 6:00pm. This should be a shorter meet since it's only our team competing.
SHINE DAY: Our Green & White Meet on June 10th will be dedicated in Memory of Clark Reagan and Shine Day. In memory of Clark's shining smile and spirit, we will be collecting food or monetary donations at the Meet for Second Harvest Food Bank. https://secondharvestetn.org/
Standing only to view events at meets: Deck space this year will be reserved for swimmers, volunteers, and coaches only. We ask that all swimmers sit under the pavilion so that we can find them for their events. Families and spectators may place chairs outside the pool fence. Spectator seating is not allowed on the pool deck. Spectators may step on deck to view their swimmer’s events. After their swimmers event is completed, we ask that spectators return to their seating area outside the fence to allow space for spectators to rotate in and out.
Volunteers: We are still in need of around 10 volunteers to ensure the meet runs smoothly. We cannot execute a meet without our volunteers. Please sign up to volunteer! If you missed tonight Volunteer Zoom session, feel free to reach out and we can help you select a position!
Food/Drinks at meets: Green Meadow has a "no outside food/drink" policy. For meets, we want our swimmers to stay hydrated, so you can pack water, gatorade, etc. for your swimmers. Small snacks for between events are also permitted. The club will have the snack bar open and will have a stand at the meet selling pizza. We do ask that you respect Green Meadow's policy and not bring in any large coolers or other outside food to the club.
*Practices- Age Group Change*: Beginning next week (June 14th), we will be changing our age group practice times around to better accommodate the number of swimmers we are seeing at practices. Practices will be as follows:
8:45-10:15- 11 and over
10:15-11:15- 8 to 10 year olds
11:15-12:00- 7 and under
We are making this change to try to ensure that each swimmer gets the best experience possible. We are lenient on age groups/times, so if you have an issue with any of the practice times, let Coach Breanna know and we can likely accommodate it. Hopefully this will help the younger group get more attention and the middle age swimmers get more focused training and endurance!
T-shirts: Remember to order your t-shirts from Pokeys! Gmst2021.itemorder.com The portal will close on June 9th (Wednesday).
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, feedback, suggestions, ideas, etc!
