Almost time for summer swim!
Hi GMST family-
We are in the final days of preparation for this summer! Please see below for some important updates and reminders as we get closer to our first day.
Meet & Greet- Sunday, May 23rd from 1:00-3:00 at Green Meadow Pool
We will have a meet & greet opportunity on Sunday afternoon for you to come by and meet the coaches for this summer. This is a casual time to just stop by and say hello. We'll be outside by the pool. Board members will also be around to answer any other questions you may have about the summer.
Registration
If you have not yet registered for the summer but are planning to swim, we would encourage you to register soon so we can get an accurate headcount of our team prior to the first day. This helps us ensure we are staffed appropriately at practices and have the right plan!
2021 GMST Sponsors
We would like to thank the following businesses for their 2021 season sponsorship: Anderson Truss, State Farm - Misty Castiglia, PCS Inc. Business IT Support and Power Equipment. GMST appreciates you!
Team Suits
We do have a team suit picked out for the summer. As a reminder, team suits are not required to be worn by swimmers at meets, but it does add a fun "team" element. Our suit for the summer is the Speedo Emerging Force in Green. It is available for purchase at Swim & Tri in Knoxville, or can be ordered online at your favorite swim store. Swim & Tri will be holding an in-store sizing week May 31-June 5 where they will have deals for GMST swimmers.
First Day of Practice
Our first day of practice this year is Monday, May 31st (Memorial Day). We will have practice that morning which will have a twist on our traditional Pancake Breakfast (donuts this year for the swimmers) and some fun introductions. We will not have practice in the evening on Memorial Day. Normal practice schedule will resume on Tuesday, June 1st.
We will be having parents sign up for practices again this summer. There will be a larger number of people allowed per practice and no restriction on the number of practices you can sign up for. Sign-ups are really to help coaches plan and to allow parents to see which practices may be crowded and which ones are not. Sign-ups for the first week of practice will be sent out next week.
Certified Officials Needed & Required
Don’t know a thing about swimming? Then you are the perfect person to become a volunteer certified official at swim meets. It is a rewarding experience. The training is quick and easy, and we are running short this summer. We have 4 certified officials now, 2 rolling off after this summer. We need at least 6 new stroke & turn officials this season. All interested parents must attend one short training session and take a test. There are several session options in Knoxville and one session at John Sevier pool on June 3 at 7:00pm. All you need to do is show up. The following link provides more information and session locations: https://d1nmxxg9d5tdo.
COVID Protocols
Things are opening up everywhere and this summer at GMST will be no different. As noted before, we will have larger numbers at practice and will be a little more relaxed than we were last summer. We are also planning to have all swim meets in person. While we hope this summer will be more normal, we do want to remind everyone that we will still have some COVID protocols in place for the safety of our swimmers and families. If your swimmer is feeling sick, please do not let them come to practice. Please ask your swimmer the COVID questions prior to attending a practice and stay home if you are in doubt. If your child is diagnosed with COVID and has been at practice, we do ask that you let a coach or Board member know so that we can confidentially assess our next steps- such as alerting the other swimmers who came into contact with your swimmer. We will keep all information confidential, but do need to know about any situations so we can keep other swimmers safe!
Counting down to our first day!
GMST
